Will headphones work without an audio device?

something happened to my speakers i don't know what it was so i uninstalled the device (creative soundblaster audigy 2) and i plugged in my new headphones (clear chat stereo) and it didn't work i thought about reinstalling windows xp on my computer do you thunk the headphones would work then and by the way i lost the installation disc to the sound blaster so if you happen to know a place i can download the driver that would also be nice
